Imagine you are a Wirksworth leadminer: it is 1820 and you enter the spooky 'Dream Cave'. Imagine your surpise as you discover the remains of a prehistoric Woolly Rhino - how did it get there, how did it die, who or what else lived in the cave?

This is based on a real event, Wirksworth leadminers really did find the remains of the Woolly Rhino in a local cave in 1820!







We recently secured over £6,000 to restore a collection of clothes belonging to the ancient Wirksworth Gell family, important members of the Wirksworth community and founders of our secondary school 'Anthony Gell'.
