Opening Times

We open on Good Friday and close on September 30th,
We're also open in October half-term.
We close over the winter to renew our displays.

Wednesday to Saturday, plus all Bank Holidays  - 10.30 - 4.30pm
Sunday 1.30 - 4.30pm

We do our best to open at the times shown, however we are staffed entirely by volunteers and occasionally will have to close due to staff shortages. Please call us on  01629 825 225 before you visit to check we are open.

Facilities and Accessibility
Toilets and baby changing.
Due to the nature of our listed building, we have limited disabled access. The ground floor and gallery area are accessible.

Senior Citizen - £2.00

Group Visits
If you have  a group we would like to visit out of hours, or out of season, call us in advance and we'll arrange it for you.
School visits are especially welcome, we have up to date teachers' packs and curriculum advice.
10% discount for groups of 20 or more.
We can arrange guided walks around Wirksworth.


Location and Directions

We are in the centre of Wirksworth opposite the Market Place  pay and display car park which is a 2 minute walk from the town centre bus stop.

From the car park go under the large archway next to the post office and follow the path up and round to the left. We are at the top of the bend next to Crown Yard Kitchen.

Buses

Wirksworth has a regular bus service the 6:1 which runs from both Derby and Bakewell

About Wirksworth's Location
Situated about two miles to the south of the Peak District National Park boundary, 13 miles north of Derby and 4 miles from Matlock, Wirksworth offers both beautiful countryside and a charming local history.

Wirksworth has many fine old buildings with picturesque alleys and craftsmen's yards, so take time to explore the narrow streets and the maze of interesting alleyways by foot whilst admiring the old buildings, the wonderful Church of St Mary's and the lovely views.

The local countryside offers wonderful opportunities for walking and cycling. Nearby attractions include Carsington Water, Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, The National Stone Centre and the High Peak Trail is only a mile away which offers 15 miles of off-road cycling and walking on the track bed of the historic Cromford and the High Peak Railway.
